It was deeply meaningful to attend both the Pride flag raising in Ottawa this week and the flag raising marking Ukrainian Independence Day.🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🇺🇦
Both flags represent people standing together in the face of growing threats to their safety, dignity and ...fundamental rights.
Kudos to Councillor Ariel Troster and Ukrainian Ambassador Andrii Plakhotniuk, who each delivered powerful speeches. An extra-special shout-out to the Ukrainian Children’s Choir, as well as Félicité Tambaud, who attended on behalf of the CSC Vanier.

Cette semaine, j’ai eu le privilège d’assister à la levée du drapeau de la Fierté à Ottawa ainsi qu’à celle soulignant la fête de l’Indépendance de l’Ukraine.🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🇺🇦
Dans des contextes bien différents, ces deux drapeaux témoignent de communautés qui se mobilisent pour défendre leur sécurité, leur dignité et leurs droits fondamentaux.
Bravo à la conseillère Ariel Troster et à l’ambassadeur de l’Ukraine, Andrii Plakhotniuk, pour leurs discours percutants. Une mention toute spéciale à la chorale d’enfants ukrainiens, ainsi qu’à Félicité Tambaud, qui représentait le CSC Vanier.

Great weekend in the community!
I started at Lucille Collard’s Corn Roast at Optimiste Park, where I chatted with Vanier residents and ran into Councillors Tim Tierney and Rawlson King, as well as Mathieu Fleury, who is running for school board trustee with the Conseil des écoles ...publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario. Thanks to Chiqui Bakery for the coffee and the Ottawa Public Library for signing people up for library cards!
At Art in the Park in Strathcona Park, Ben of BenAnimalia told me about his Ottawa 200 biodiversity project and taught me a few things about giraffes. 🦒
I also stopped by the annual St. Ambroise Street Party, where Diego was naturally the centre of attention. Thanks to the neighbours who brought everyone together!
Finally, I saw Tony, about the early years of Anthony Bourdain, at the ByTowne Cinema. If you’ve read Kitchen Confidential, the story will be familiar. And the ByTowne still serves the best popcorn in town. 🍿

Une autre belle fin de semaine bien remplie dans le quartier!
Premier arrêt : l’épluchette de blé d’Inde de Lucille Collard au parc Optimiste. J’ai pu jaser avec plusieurs personnes de Vanier et retrouver les conseillers Tim Tierney et Rawlson King, ainsi que Mathieu Fleury, candidat au poste de conseiller scolaire au Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario. Merci à Chiqui Bakery pour le café et à la Bibliothèque publique d’Ottawa d’avoir permis aux gens de se procurer leur carte de bibliothèque!
Direction ensuite le parc Strathcona pour Art in the Park. Ben de BenAnimalia m’y a présenté son projet Ottawa 200 sur la biodiversité, avec en prime une petite leçon sur les girafes. 🦒
Diego et moi avons également fait un saut à la fête de rue annuelle de St. Ambroise. Sans grande surprise, il a volé la vedette! Merci aux voisins qui font vivre cette belle tradition.
Pour finir, je suis allée voir Tony, qui raconte la jeunesse d’Anthony Bourdain, au cinéma ByTowne. Les personnes qui ont lu Kitchen Confidential reconnaîtront bien l’histoire. Et le ByTowne sert toujours le meilleur popcorn en ville. 🍿

Great to see Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Councillor Shawn Menard, MP Yasir Naqvi and school board trustee Donna Blackburn in attendance. I was also happy to sample some of the delicious food from the vendors on-site!

J’ai eu le plaisir d’ouvrir le Festival palestinien hier!
J’étais également heureuse d’y retrouver le maire Mark Sutcliffe, le conseiller Shawn Menard, le député Yasir Naqvi et la conseillère scolaire Donna Blackburn, sans oublier les délicieux plats que j’ai pu goûter auprès des vendeurs sur place!
Merci aux organisateurs pour l’invitation et pour tout le travail derrière la réalisation d’un événement comme celui-ci. Et bravo Zainab pour le magnifique défilé de mode!
