Today we marked Emancipation Day with a flag raising at Ottawa City Hall, organized by Jayeur Joseph-Antoine, President of the West Indian Youth Association of Ottawa.

It was an honour to join Councillor Rawlson King, Cindy Sauers, Minister Counsellor and Acting High Commissioner of the ...Cooperative Republic of Guyana in Canada, Sarah Onyango of Black History Ottawa, and so many members of our community for this important occasion. And a special shout-out to the adorable Jaylen, who made history as the youngest person ever to hoist a flag at Ottawa City Hall. Congratulations, Jaylen!

I was especially charmed by Jaylen's Lightning McQueen Crocs. A future history-maker with impeccable taste in footwear. 🏁

Aujourd'hui, nous avons souligné la Journée de l'émancipation lors d'une cérémonie de lever du drapeau à l'hôtel de ville d'Ottawa, organisée par Jayeur Joseph-Antoine, président de la West Indian Youth Association of Ottawa.

J'étais ravie d'y retrouver la conseillère Rawlson King, Cindy Sauers, ministre-conseillère et haute-commissaire par intérim de la République coopérative du Guyana au Canada, Sarah Onyango de Black History Ottawa, ainsi que de nombreux membres de notre communauté. Et bravo au jeune Jaylen, devenu la plus jeune personne de l'histoire à hisser un drapeau à l'hôtel de ville d'Ottawa.

Je dois aussi avouer avoir complètement craqué pour ses Crocs Flash McQueen. Un futur bâtisseur d'histoire avec déjà un excellent sens du style! 🏁

One of the projects I'm most proud to support is the Ottawa Humane Society's new Community Veterinary Clinic at the former post office at 258 Durocher Street in Vanier. ❤️ This clinic will help make veterinary care more affordable and accessible so that families don't have to ...choose between paying the bills and caring for a beloved pet.

If you're curious about the project, have questions, or want to learn how it will work, join us for a Community Town Hall on Friday, August 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vanier Community Services Centre (270 Marier Ave.). I'll be joining OHS President & CEO Sharon Miko and Board Chair Jean Nelson for a panel discussion and Q&A. Coffee and refreshments will be provided, and seating is limited, so be sure to RSVP.

L'un des projets que je suis le plus fière d'appuyer est la future clinique vétérinaire communautaire de la Société protectrice des animaux d'Ottawa, au 258, rue Durocher à Vanier. ❤️ Cette clinique permettra à davantage de familles d'avoir accès à des soins vétérinaires abordables afin que personne n'ait à choisir entre payer ses factures et prendre soin de son compagnon.

Vous voulez en savoir plus sur le projet ou poser vos questions? Joignez-vous à nous le vendredi 14 août, de 18 h à 20 h, au Centre des services communautaires Vanier (270, avenue Marier). Je participerai à une table ronde avec Sharon Miko, présidente-directrice générale de la SPA d'Ottawa, et Jean Nelson, présidente du conseil d'administration. Café et rafraîchissements seront offerts. Les places sont limitées, alors pensez à vous inscrire!
