DESCRIPTION:Because of the change in contractor\, some residents will experience a three-week gap between garbage collection dates in late March / early April. To accommodate this gap\, operators will collect up to six garbage items on your scheduled garbage collection day between March 30 and April 24 (no yellow bags required!). \nYour green bin will continue to be collected weekly. \nThanks to Councillor Plante’s advocacy\, Solid Waste Services is hosting a one-time\, one bag garbage drop-off opportunity on Saturday\, April 4\, from 8:30 to 11:30 am at Sandy Hill Community Centre (250 Somerset Street East). \nNo bulky items or additional bags will be accepted. Proof of address may be required onsite. \nThank you for continuing to use your green bin and recycling bins to reduce your waste. \nAnyone from Ward 12 can use this service!

DESCRIPTION:Starting March 30\, 2026\, Ottawa will have a new curbside waste collection contract for garbage\, green bin and leaf and yard waste. \nWhat’s changing: \nLeaf and yard waste will continue to be collected weekly\, but it must be set out separately from your green bin in a reusable container labelled “Leaf and Yard Waste” or in brown paper bags. \nIn addition\, as part of the new contract\, collection days for garbage\, organics\, leaf and yard waste\, and recycling may change for about half of Ottawa households. Please visit ottawa.ca/CollectionCalendar to view your collection schedule. If you are affected by this change\, you will see your updated collection day on the week of March 30 and beyond. If you are signed up for weekly collection reminders\, you can continue to rely on them. \nWhat you need to know: \n\nSet household waste at the curb any time after 6 pm the evening before or by 7 am on your collection day:\n\nGreen bin: Food waste continues to be collected weekly from your green bin.\nRecycling: Recycling continues to be collected weekly\, alternating between blue and black bins\, under the new provincial program. See what’s accepted at CircularMaterials.ca/Ottawa.\nGarbage and bulky items: Residential garbage continues to be collected every two weeks. (Are you sure it’s garbage? Check ottawa.ca/WasteExplorer for the best disposal option)\n\n\n\nAs part of the transition to the new collection schedule\, some households may experience a gap of three weeks with no garbage collection. SUMMARY:Registration Opening for the Cleaning the Capital Spring campaign
DESCRIPTION:The Cleaning the Capital campaign is a citywide cleanup that occurs in the spring and fall of every year. Residents come together as a community and combine efforts to make our city clean and green. Litter pickup projects must be registered\, and participating teams\, upon request\, receive a cleanup starter kit to assist them with their projects. \n2026 marks the 33rd year of the Cleaning the Capital Program! \nRegistration for the Cleaning the Capital Spring campaign opens on March 27\, with litter cleanup projects taking place across our city between April 15 and May 31. \nThe online registration form is available on the Cleaning the Capital webpage. Residents are encouraged to check out the interactive map prior to registering to view the locations and dates of all registered cleanup projects in their communities. Participants can choose to clean public spaces such as parks and greenspaces\, roadsides\, shorelines\, or even areas around bus stops.
