Pipe Repairs Duford Street, between Lavergne and Grandmaître streets

This notice is to advise that construction in Vanier will be undertaken between September and November 2024. This work is being conducted to complete the replacement of approximately 90 metres of storm sewer infrastructure.

• What: Work involves the removal of the damaged storm pipe and replacement with a new pipe.
• Why: The City of Ottawa will be undertaking this repair to address structural damage to storm infrastructure. The existing 300mm storm sewer on Duford Street is damaged. Approximately 90 metres of pipe needs to be replaced.
• When: This work is planned to be completed sometime in between September and November 2024, when weather permits, and should take around 2 months.
• Where: Construction activity can be expected on Duford Street, between Lavergne and Grandmaître streets to facilitate the storm sewer replacement.
• Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Robert Excavating, to complete the work.

Traffic management
Residents can expect construction traffic and activity within the City’s right of way. Intermittent flagging of traffic on the approaches to the work on Duford Street to facilitate construction activities. Please watch for flagging and signage. Local access will be maintained. Pedestrian and cyclist access will not be impacted.

Pre-construction inspection
The contractor is required to carry out interior and exterior pre-construction inspections of consenting homes. The purpose of the pre-construction survey is to document current building and landscape conditions before construction commences. A representative from the contractor will be contacting you about these inspections should they be applicable to your property. Please note that only properties within the immediate vicinity of the works will have an inspection conducted. It is to your benefit to allow the inspection to be conducted on your property, as it may assist with establishing the impact, if any, that construction has had at your property after work is completed. In addition, you may wish to complete your own survey of pre-construction conditions on your property. Your survey should include photographs. As part of this contract, the contractor is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until it is entirely complete as well as any damages to private property resulting from these construction activities. In the event of such occurrences, all claims for damages should be immediately reported both verbally and in writing to the contractor. This will ensure prompt notification of appropriate authorities to complete the claim investigations.

Parking
On-street parking will be prohibited within the construction zone. Signs will be placed a minimum of 24 hours in advance indicating the parking prohibition. Vehicles parked at these locations may be towed at the owner’s expenses. Parking fines may also apply. In the event access to your driveway is temporarily restricted due to construction activities, the City’s inspector will provide you with a temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) to authorize on-street parking within a few blocks of your residence.

Construction disruptions
Robert Excavation will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the normal life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the operation of the work. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation. For construction activity hours of work, the City of Ottawa follows provincial requirements and the City’s Noise By-law (2017-255).
